Summer 2025 Rusty Crow Quilt Shop
How can it almost be June already? We can definitely feel the added energy of the tourists on the island. As I have said before, Mike and I love seeing family enjoying the beaches and sites the Outer Banks is famous for. The shop is staying pretty steady, we are starting to see the same faces year after year now. They ask about the dogs and if we are still enjoying living here. They remember Mike's name, which surprises him and makes me smile.
We have had a busy year already. A new granddaughter, Nova born in January. Sorry no pictures allowed on Social media, but if you come into the shop, I have a brag book by the register to share, lol. Here is me and my baby, Brooke, Nova's mom. No rules about her being online. She is a great mom and we are so proud of her and the family she and Dan have created.
We had 3 very successful quilt retreats. Every retreat is different, even if the people are the same. Love the creative juices that gets flowing. No one ever leaves without making a bunch of new friends, that is probably the greatest take away from any of them.
Jango had knee surgery on one of his back legs. He is the perfect dog, and this surgery hasn't done anything to change that. He is about half way through his 10 weeks of restricted movement. No shop time for him. Mike and I take turns running the shop and staying home with him. So if we look a bit tired when you see us at the shop, don't worry. Nothing a week long nap couldn't cure.
Valdani has been busting out all kinds of new colors!!! We have the new GL's, RR's, S, and Sparkle series.
We have loaded up with new patterns of others as well. Lori Holt, Sue Spargo, Elizabeth Hartman and others.
We brought in some craft patterns and books as well. When another quilt seems daunting, a small project can jump start your creativity.
As the year rolls on, I'll keep you updated on our remodeling plans for the shop. Fingers crossed, it will start Mid November. We are excited and hope to spread the southern hospitality that has been graced upon us to all of you. We would love to have a place where you can come stitch, laugh, create and leave your worries out in the parking lot. A place to try new things and teach me a couple of your tricks, you never stop learning. If anything, come for a cup of coffee and whatever sourdough discard recipes I'm trying out that day. lol.
This weekend is not lost on me. We are grateful and indebted to every fallen soldier. I pray their familes know how much this American family appreciates their scarifice and bravery.
I hope this weekend gives you extra time to reconnect with friends and family. That is the good stuff.
As always, thanks for being a part of my world. Mike and I are lucky to have found this great quilting communtiy.
Have a great summer, with love, Shawn
